Taunt Talk

As Svenn was coming up through the ranks, there was always debate about when to use Righteous Defense. With the addition of Hand of Reckoning and the change in the RD spell mechanics the debate has died down some of late. The question remains however, when to use it mainly because of the light cool down associated with it (10 seconds).

Svenn prefers to save RD for his healer. If a Mob decides to target a healer for some strange reason, lets say massive AoE heals draw aggro, that is not the time you want have to wait for your AoE taunt to cool down. The case can be made to use RD whenever, given the pally's access to a second targetable taunt, as well as a stun, and Hand of Protection, along with Hand of Salvation for a longer term threat shedding solution.

Either way, Svenn discovered the hard way, when NOT to use Righteous Defense. While fighting Grobbulus, I was on Off Tank duty, not a bad gig. My job was to pick up the slimes that Grobby spawned and tank them. Easy right? The problem was that the Main Tank would pick up aggro on them with various AoE as they spawned and it was hard for Svenn to peel them off of her. Thus the critical mistake was made; an ill placed RD taunt did the trick. That trick being; bring the slime over to Svenn, it also brought Grobby over, who promptly injected the MT with a mutagen, sprayed slime all over everyone spawning yet more slimes, dropped a big ill placed poison cloud and in general made life miserable for the raid.



It was after this unfortunate incident that I realized that the new taunt had been released and I had yet to revisit a trainer to learn it. How embarrassing. Fortunately, the raid was very forgiving and I hearthed out, got Svenn a new taunt and was summoned back via the miracle of Warlock Wide Screen TV Summoning Portals. I believe Grobby fell on the next attempt for our guild's first kill of that particular boss.
